Originally Asher's follow-up to his debut album Open Secret, Single as Love was an attempt to make and master an album by himself, in 1988! This proved to be somewhat over-ambitious, however, as technology is not one of his gifts. Engineer James Morgan stepped in to help complete the project, but Asher decided to try again with Phil Thornton at the helm in 1993. The piano was re-recorded at Anthony Phillips's studio and then lightly orchestrated at Phil Thornton's. This was done in the same week as recording both Art of Love and Concert of Angels, so, remarkably, three albums were produced in a week for a combined cost of £450! All three albums are essentially piano-based, and all the pieces are improvised.
